At the African Women Mentoring and Inspiring Initiative (AWMII), we believe that empowerment isn’t just about what happens in a boardroom or a classroom – it’s about the very ground we walk on.
Recently, AWMII Zimbabwe rolled up its sleeves to join the National Clean-Up Campaign, proving that leadership and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.

Leading by Example
Led by our dedicated Coordinator, Tadiwanashe Mupezeni, the AWMII Zimbabwe team partnered with the Interact Club and the local Town Council to hit the streets. This wasn’t just about picking up litter; it was about reclaiming our public spaces and fostering a culture of shared responsibility.
Why the Environment Matters to Women’s Empowerment
You might wonder: Why is a women’s mentoring organization focusing on a clean-up? The answer is simple: Holistic Empowerment. For women and girls to truly thrive, the foundations must be solid. We believe that for our community members to access quality education, pursue justice, and maintain good health, they must live in environments that are:
- Safe: Reducing hazards in the community.
- Healthy: Lowering the risk of disease through proper waste management.
- Dignified: Creating spaces that reflect the value of the people living in them.
“Environmental responsibility is a vital pillar of sustainable community development. We cannot talk about the well-being of women and families without ensuring the health of the communities they call home.”
A Huge Thank You
We want to extend our heartfelt commendations to Tadiwanashe Mupezeni and all the young leaders from the Interact Club. Their energy and dedication are exactly what’s needed to build healthier, more resilient communities.
When we work together with local authorities like the Town Council, we don’t just clean a street – we build a movement.
