On Friday the 14th of October 2022, the African Women Mentoring and Inspiring
Initiative in commemoration of annual celebration of the female gender globally know
tagged International Day of the Girl Child. The theme for 2022 is “Our time is
now—our rights, our future”; the focus is the right to education and safety for our
girls. We can work together to make the future bright especially in the rural parts of
the African continent where girl education is a waste of resources.
African Women Mentoring and Inspiring Initiative visited a government secondary
school in Nigeria with Ms. Charity United Nations who is an African woman. The idea
is to encourage the girls that anything is possible, their present
circumstance/challenge is not enough reason to kill their dreams. We encouraged
them to keep their dreams alive and that the future was brighter for them.
COVID 19, religious crisis and recently the floods of 2022 have worsened our
educational activities in Nigeria. The abduction of girls within the age brackets of
10years-21years from their schools, homes and communities and forced into child
labour/marriages in the name of religious crisis is alarming. We hope to have a better
Nigeria and a better world where our children especially the girls find safety in all
ramification. We must deliberately as a people, as a nation and as a world invest in
the future of the girl child and create a pathway to leadership, entrepreneurship and
mental development for daughters, sisters and wives.
Free sanitary pads were distributed for free to over one hundred and fifty (150) girls
of Government Secondary school Elekahia and about twenty (20) young girls selling
on the street.
